A little about me
My name is Dr. Bridget Cahill, and I have worked as a teacher for 20+ years. I am a fully credentialed teacher and Response to Intervention (RtI) Specialist; I have been providing tutoring services since 2012. I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Special Education (Illinois State University), a Master's degree in Educational Administration (University of Illinois at Chicago), and a Doctorate degree in Educational Leadership (National Louis University).
My number one passion in life is working with children, adolescents, and their families. I thrive on helping students to gain the skills and strategies to improve their confidence and achieve success! I know firsthand that students need a supportive adult who is consistently "in their corner" - pushing gently and knowingly - in order to reach their individual potential and achieve success.
FAQ
How long will my child require tutoring?
The length of time that a child requires tutoring depends on many factors, such as:
- the student's age/grade
- the degree of difficulty the student is experiencing
- the student's current skill levels in reading fluency, reading comprehension, math concepts and applications, etc.
- whether the student has a learning disability, or other identified disability, which impacts learning
I move at each student's pace. So, while one student may be able to learn multiple skills in one session, another student may need 2-3 sessions to master those same skills.
Do you communicate with my child's teacher(s)?
Yes, I do! I will work closely with teachers and school administrators to make sure that your student is the most successful student they can be. Please see my Advocacy section below, or contact me for more information.
What are your hours?
I strive to be available whenever is most convenient for the student. I also offer sessions outside of the regular school day, after school, on weekends, and during the summer. In addition, I am available for Skype sessions. For further details, please contact me using the form at the bottom of the page.
How long do tutoring sessions last?
Tutoring sessions are typically scheduled to start on the hour, and last 55 minutes. Many students require sessions that last 1.5 hours. The last 5 minutes of the session are reserved for wrap-up, scheduling appointments, and other administrative tasks.
During tutoring sessions, I work with students to clarify concepts, consolidate lessons taught at school, tackle homework assignments, prepare for quizzes and tests, and provide feedback from the student's teacher (if applicable). If time permits, I often provide additional activities to enhance the student's understanding.
What is your rate for tutoring, and what forms of payment do you accept?
The fees for my tutoring sessions are based on a reasonable hourly rate, which is discussed with the client before the contact is developed. Typically, I set up contracts with clients on a 10-week basis, or I develop a contract that coincides with a school's grading period.
I accept cash and checks, as well as electronic forms of payment including PayPal. Payment dates are set up for each client, with due dates specified in each contract. Typically, in a 10-week contract, payment is required every 2 weeks.
Do you supply any learning materials for the sessions?
I highly recommend that your child bring school books, or any other related material(s), to the tutoring sessions. In some cases, if supplemental materials may complement what your child is learning, I will provide additional materials. If needed, I will assist you in attaining materials from your child's school, or direct you to several resources where you can purchase the appropriate books.
Testimonials
My family is in Cape Cod for the summer and we needed a tutor to work with our son, who has a complex set of learning and social-emotional issues. We needed someone with experience, skill, enthusiasm, warmth and a great sense of humor. We have been delighted with Dr. Bridget’s approach with our son, and also how she collaborates with our son’s tutors back home in D.C. Bridget is firm but fair, warm,
consistent, engaging, and most of all – she has addressed our son’s thinking about who is responsible for his learning. She sets reachable standards for our son each session, and in a word, I would describe her
services as priceless!

As the Middle Years Programme Language and Literature teacher for grades 5 through 8 at Provincetown Schools, an International Baccalaureate World School, I was blessed to work with Dr. Bridget Cahill over four years as she tutored one of the students in my class from 5th through 8th grade.
Bridget’s positive energy and enthusiasm for teaching and learning is palpable and contagious. Over time I watched a shy, anxious, hesitant, even, at times, reluctant and avoidant student blossom into a skilled reader, passionate writer, and risk-taking academic leader who stood on the auditorium stage and orally presented her IB Community Project on the rights of Transgendered persons to the entire school community of students, faculty, administrators, parents, mentors, and community members.
Bridget knows how to affirm the natural strengths and passions of the student, and builds from there with the wide range of tools and strategies she has as a seasoned, but always learning expert teacher. Bridget helps students set high, but attainable goals, provides adequate supports along the way, and eventually has students reach success, independence, and confidence.
I am always impressed with the efficiency with which Bridget works. She is knowledgeable about the demands of Common Core, and was a quick study in grasping the expectations of the International Baccalaureate. She comes prepared to tutoring sessions, finds spaces to meet that best meets the needs of her students and finds ways (Skype) to maintain continuity when illness, weather, or distance is a challenge. She bolstered the learning sessions with appropriate snacks. Her pacing was admirable; she accomplishes much in short bursts of time. Also, Bridget is always aware of the best new educational technologies to match her student’s learning needs. She is always flexible and open to better strategies that will help her student be successful.
Bridget “gets it” that individual students require individual solutions! Bridget always helps students to stay organized and on track with their actual expectations in the school curriculum. Bridget works respectfully, in full partnership, with faculty at the school. As a member of the IEP teams, Bridget is able to delicately offer possibilities of new ways to work with students that might be successful, without ruffling egos of full-time faculty. She is an exceptionally skilled advocate for her student.
Finally, I have deep appreciation for Bridget’s generosity as a colleague. Many tutors never interact with their student’s classroom teachers. I very much feel as if Bridget has been my co-teacher, even mentor, who generously shares new ideas, websites, curriculum materials, and opportunities to recognize our student’s success beyond the school. Her work has been transformative for her students and for me.

My 8th grade daughter attends an International Baccalaureate School. For the past four years, Dr.
Bridget Cahill has been an integral part of my daughter’s learning. My daughter and Bridget share
an extra special bond. As my daughter likes to say, “She is so perky, mom!” Bridget has incredible patience in the face of adolescent ups and downs, frustration, impatience, and anger. She is able to draw my daughter back from other places, and help her focus on the task at hand. Bridget seeks new ways to inspire my 13-year old daughter, and to enhance academic
instruction.
During a school break a few winters back, I contracted with Bridget to join us as we traveled to Mexico, to ensure that my daughter would stay “connected” with her learning goals while she was away from the day-to- day structure of the classroom environment. My daughter benefitted from having Bridget there as her daily tutor, and she shared an experience with Bridget in a more “relaxed” atmosphere during her down time. It was a fun time for us all!
It is a joy to work with Bridget in deepening my daughter’s ability to understand, to stay curious,
and to learn.
Thank you, Dr. Bridget!!

“The work that Dr. Bridget Cahill does with kids is magic, but she is not a magician: she is a compassionate, savvy educator with years of experience that yield serious results. We have two boys with very different learning styles and challenges, and Dr. Bridget has been as successful with our math-challenged child as she has been with our child with math gifts.
She is just as fine a teacher of adults, helping my partner and I navigate the often choppy territory of schools both public and private. Most important, Bridget has helped us all love school more, which has been the ultimate gift of our work with her."

With my guidance and support, students will find keys to unlock their potential and meet their learning goals.
Advocacy 101
Are you looking for a POSITIVE, COLLABORATIVE, SOLUTION-FOCUSED response to issues involved with your student’s:
- Diagnostics/ Assessments
- Evaluation Summary
- Program placement, location
- Change of educational placement
- Related services (Speech/Language, Occupational/Physical Therapy, etc)
If you are unsure or disagree with the type of assessments given or their results, I have the background knowledge and professional experience to help you work to a "win-win" outcome with your school’s special education team.
special education
One of my key areas of expertise is with students who have special needs. Additionally, with parent consent by taking the steps to connect with your child's teacher(s). I will be fully prepared to provide the specific tutoring goals and services to meet your child's needs. I provide tutoring services to students in pre-K - 8th grade, across all skill levels, using a multi-sensory approach to instruction. I also work with students who are gifted and talented, providing them with additional enrichment activities - different opportunities for deeper, individualized learning outside of the school day.
